About Me
Hi, I’m Shihao Qu — though you can also call me Jonny or JQ.
I like creating things: videos, writing, websites, and whatever else happens to make sense at the time. I also have a habit of taking a perfectly simple question and thinking about it for way too long. A lot of my projects start with sth like, “Emm, that’s interesting,” and somehow turn into interviews, photography, videos, music, websites, digital archives, or something I definitely wasn’t planning to make at the beginning.
I’ve been creating media since middle school, and I’ve also been running my own media account, JouleChannel. At first, it was mostly just me wandering around with a camera. Over time, that grew into projects, documentaries, interviews, photography, and web-based work. I care less about whether something “looks like a proper project” and more about whether it’s actually interesting, and whether it manages to say something clearly.
My interests are a bit all over the place. Media, games, culture, the environment, the humanities — I’m usually curious enough to explore any of them. Sometimes that means opening twenty tabs and completely forgetting what I was originally looking for. But every now and then, one of those messy connections turns into an idea worth following.
So rather than a polished portfolio, I think of this website as part archive, part workbench. It’s where I keep projects, writing, photographs, notes from things I’m learning, and ideas I’m still trying to figure out. Not everything here is fully finished or perfectly thought through, but at least it’s real.
If you keep scrolling, you’ll probably know whatever I’ve been messing around with lately.

Prof. Davis’s lectures and introduction to the Humanities Core Handbook invite you to start noticing specific times, places, or situations in your day-to-day life in which you encounter the entanglement of “nature” and “culture”: sites where it’s impossible to separate the two or moments when you might think you're in one realm but it's actually both. What do you see, hear, or otherwise sense as you begin to notice encounters that complicate distinctions between “nature”/“culture” or “human”/“non-human”? And how can you record and reflect thoughtfully on those moments using the space of a webpage?
